Chris Jericho Reflects On His Match With Fellow Former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona
ROH World Champion Chris Jericho shared his excitement about stepping into the ring with former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona.
Their match at ROH’s Final Battle marked Jericho’s successful defence of the championship and the first major singles bout between the two veterans. Despite sharing years in WWE, Jericho and Cardona had limited interaction as opponents. Jericho expressed his eagerness to face Cardona, citing the fresh dynamic of their matchup.
I was really excited when the idea came up to work with Matt because I’ve never worked with him before.
Jericho said during an appearance on Gabby AF.
Maybe a two-minute nothing match, but once again that was Zack Ryder. That’s a different guy almost at this point in time. We’ve never wrestled before, and I like the idea of having it be somebody different, someone kind of outside the wire so to speak.
Their only previous encounter occurred on Monday Night Raw in March 2016. Competing under his WWE persona Zack Ryder, Cardona scored an upset victory over Jericho with an assist from AJ Styles. Since then, both have carved distinct paths outside WWE, with Jericho departing in 2018 and Cardona leaving in 2020.
What Did Chris Jericho Say About The Idea Of AEW Signing Matt Cardona?
Chris Jericho spoke about the possibility of Matt Cardona being signed to AEW and said that he thinks Cardona would be a huge asset to the company as Cardona has done a brilliant job of reinventing himself after leaving WWE for the independent scene.
