Chris Jericho May Target 2-Time World Champion Upon WWE Return
Chris Jericho is rumored to return to WWE in 2026. His first target could be a former world champion.
The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla had a six-year run in AEW, where he became the inaugural AEW World Champion, holding the title for 182 days. Nevertheless, his stint with Tony Khan’s promotion may soon come to an end.
According to the latest reports, the 55-year-old’s AEW contract is set to expire by the end of this year. Jon Alba of Sports Illustrated recently revealed that sources have indicated that Jericho is expected to appear on WWE TV very soon.
Sam Roberts Predicts Chris Jericho’s First WWE Feud After Potential Return
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts predicted that Chris Jericho will indeed return to the Stamford-based company next year.
The 42-year-old then suggested that the former Undisputed WWE Champion return as a babyface before immediately turning heel. He also proposed a scenario where Jericho would target two-time world champion AJ Styles, who is set to retire in 2026. The two were briefly tag team partners in 2016 under the name Y2AJ.
I would love to see Jericho come back as a babyface and instantly turn heel on somebody. I think maybe a Chris Jericho versus LA Knight story could be very very interesting. I think Chris Jericho even, like, taking out one of the young NXT guys could be very very interesting. You know, sort of the veteran beating up the young guy.
Maybe Chris Jericho taking out AJ Styles, you know, and returning to the Jericho-AJ Styles thing, Y2AJ, going like, ‘You want to take all the glory.’ ‘Oh, it’s my last year. It’s my last year.’ ‘Well, I’m here to put you out because I still go a lot left in me.’ Whatever you want to do. There’s a million things that you coudl do with Chris Jericho. [41:41 onwards]
