Chris Jericho Loses ROH World Title In Bizarre Circumstances
Chris Jericho lost out at AEW Dynasty, but only at the second time of asking.
The lengthy rivalry between Chris Jericho and Bandido finally came to a head at Dynasty with more than championship gold on the line. In agreeing to put the ROH Title up for grabs, Jericho challenged Bandido to do the same with his mask.
At Dynasty, with the referee distracted, Jericho blasted Bandido with his baseball bat and stole the win, but his joy was short-lived.
At ringside, Bandido’s mother and sister remonstrated with Aubrey Edwards (Not the match official) and told her Jericho had used the bat to win. This sparked a conversation between Edwards, match official Bryce Remsburg, and Justin Roberts and the match restarted.
Jericho grabbed Bandido’s sister by the hair but she slapped him, enabling her brother to get the upper hand. Bandido then hit his reverse GTS and 21-Plex to win the World Championship.
Chris Jericho Vs. Bandido Almost Never Happened
The match between Jericho and Bandido was only confirmed late on April 3, just three days before Dynasty.
During a media call ahead of the event, Tony Khan gave a mysterious response when asked why the bout hadn’t been confirmed. The AEW boss said it hadn’t been announced for “good reasons,” before mentioning having to “play things safely.”
However, just hours later it was announced with no mention of these reasons.
It was then reported that the match was held up by “Bandido’s representatives.” There was no word on what these issues were, but the situation was described as “ridiculous.”
Elsewhere on the show, The Young Bucks made a surprise return to help Jon Moxley retain the AEW World Title, Adam Cole won the TNT Title, and Will Ospreay, Mercedes Mone, and Kyle Fletcher all advanced in the Owen Hart Cup.
