Chris Jericho Knocks Back Retirement Talk
Chris Jericho is living in the moment.
By the time most wrestlers are in their mid-50s, their full-time career is a thing of the past. But Chris Jericho isn’t like most wrestlers.
Despite making his debut back in 1990, Jericho shows no sign of slowing down. During his career, the Canadian star has wrestled in WWE, ECW, WCW, CMLL, and NJPW just to name a few, all before landing in AEW in 2019.
Jericho went on to become the promotion’s first World Champion, and he’s currently walking around with the ROH World Title.
But while he’s done everything there is to do in the wild world of pro wrestling, he’s got no intention of leaving it behind.
Chris Jericho Sees No End In Sight
During an interview with Josh Martinez on Z100 New York, Jericho was asked whether he’s thought about how he’d like to end his career.
In response, he said hasn’t considered hanging up his boots, pointing to the fact wrestlers can earn a living in the industry much longer than ever. However, he added that when he does retire, there won’t be any special ‘one-time’ comebacks.
“I really haven’t, man,” he said. “Because it could end tomorrow. Sting quit at 65. Times have changed now in wrestling because there’s so much money involved from a television standpoint, and it’s still a very star-powered business.
So you could stay in this job a lot longer than you ever thought you would, as long as you’re healthy and still can perform. I haven’t really thought about that. I’ve never been the guy who’s like, ‘Year-long retirement ceremony.’ That seems, ‘Eh.’
But there might be some merit to doing a final show. But I don’t think about that stuff. I really live in what’s going on right now. I’m sure when the time is right, I’ll know it, and we’ll figure out a way to do it and then go from there.
But when I retire, it’ll be I’m retiring. I don’t want to do the one where you come back.”
Speaking elsewhere, Chris Jericho dismissed online critics, commenting that he’s a much better judge of what works in wrestling and what doesn’t. The veteran said he’s been performing all over the world, so he “knows what he’s doing.”
