The drama involving Chris Jericho seems never-ending.

For the longest time, it was rumored that Y2J was WWE-bound. The rumors became more intense after his AEW contract expired on January 31, 2025, rendering him a free agent.

Many sources even claimed that he would appear on the January 5 episode of WWE Raw, which commemorated the brand’s first anniversary on Netflix.

However, Jericho was a no-show. To add more to the confusion, he is still listed as a talent on the company’s website.

There is no denying the fact that Chris Jericho is an asset to All Elite Wrestling, and he is a former one-time World Champion in the company. He also shares a good relationship with Tony Khan.

But he has not appeared on AEW television since April 2025. It was also reported that the creative team had no storyline for him.

More recently, another report stated that the 55-year-old has already agreed to work with WWE and has also expressed an interest in TNA.

Due to the existence of conflicting reports, a WWE veteran believes that Jericho may be playing Tony Khan.

Vince Russo Shares His Thoughts About Chris Jericho’s WWE Return

Vince Russo has always been vocal about his insight into all subjects involving wrestling.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Coach & Bro podcast, the former WWE head creative writer accused Chris Jericho of playing Tony Khan in the hopes of getting a bigger paycheck.

Let’s be honest. If anybody knows Chris Jericho, you are talking about a very, very smart, intelligent human being. What’s probably going on here is Chris is probably playing two ends against the middle, knowing damn well what he could get from Tony Khan. [28:00 onwards]
