Chris Jericho Made History At AEW WrestleDream

Chris Jericho AEW

It was a history-making night for Chris Jericho at AEW WrestleDream because of something he did during his match.

The second-last match at the AEW WrestleDream PPV in Tacoma was between the legendary Chris Jericho taking on ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe in a first-time-ever matchup.

For Chris Jericho, it was an attempt to win the ROH World Title for the second time in his illustrious career.

During an in-ring promo segment between Chris Jericho and Mark Briscoe on the October 2nd Dynamite, Jericho reminded the world that he can be a jerk by telling Mark he wasn’t as good of a wrestler as Mark’s late brother Jay Briscoe, who died in a January 2023 car accident.

At WrestleDream, Jericho would go on to hit Mark with a Jay Driller, which was Jay Briscoe’s jumping piledriver move that often ended matches. Mark kicked out Jericho’s move and would go on to hit several more moves including a top rope Froggy Bow elbow. Mark hit Jericho with his own Jay Driller, which was enough to win the match.

Chris Jericho Using A Piledriver Is Rare

In a post on Instagram, “The Learning Tree” Chris Jericho revealed that it was the first piledriver-style move he had ever done in his 34-year career as a pro wrestler.

Last night I hit the #JayDriller on @m.briscoesr at #aewwrestledream. Even though it didn’t get the results I had hoped for, I just wanna point out that this is the FIRST sitting piledriver I’ve ever done in my 34 years in this business!! @stormwrestlingacademy can attest to the fact that I was HORRIBLE at doing leg drops back in 1990 when we trained at the #hartdungeon, so I’ve NEVER done one …or any other move than ends with me landing on my ass.

Last night all that changed when I realized I had to pull out all the stops to try to become the @ringofhonor world champion. My point is, even after 34 years on the job, I’m still pushing my boundaries and doing new things…and #TheLearningTree says, YOU SHOULD TOO!!! And Briscoe…this shit ain’t over yet, son. THANKS GUYS! 👋🌳 @aew

During most of his wrestling career, Chris Jericho worked for WWE where piledrivers were banned for most wrestlers, except for The Undertaker and Kane, who used the Tombstone Piledriver as a finishing move.
