Chris Jericho “Doesn’t Have The Ego” For Retirement Tour
Chris Jericho is going with the flow.
After months of anticipation, the John Cena retirement tour is well underway. The WWE legend has vowed to retire at the end of 2025 after competing at the company’s biggest events one more time.
Cena returned to the ring at the Royal Rumble but came up short as he tried to win the match for a third time. He then announced he’d be taking part in the Elimination Chamber knowing that a win would get him back in the World Title picture.
Meanwhile, NJPW icon Hiroshi Tanahashi has announced he’ll retire at Wrestle Kingdom in early 2026.
So with retirement firmly in the headlines, some have wondered whether Chris Jericho will also be looking to wind down. After all, he made his debut just months after Tanahashi, and several years before Cena.
However, it seems walking away is the furthest thing from his mind.
Chris Jericho Won’t Copy John Cena
During a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Jericho discussed the topic of retirement and pushed back on the idea of having a grand tour or final match.
“It’s weird for me, I don’t know if I want that much pomp and circumstance. I’m not sure if that’s John’s idea or if it’s the company’s idea. A big retirement match, that’s a lot of pressure. Like Sting with his last one, it was so good, but imagine if it wasn’t. Imagine like [Ric] Flair and Shawn [Michaels], that was a great match but then Flair was like, ‘God, I want to come back.’
It’s like a rock and roll band, why put that sort of stamp on it? This is the retirement tour and then you decide to come back. To me, I just kind of go with the flow and see where I am.
Once again, I do not have the ego that would demand an official retirement tour or retirement match. If it’s something that I think would be interesting and I thought would be fun and cool, then maybe I’d do it,”
During the same interview, Chris Jericho hit back at the idea he has creative control, stating he doesn’t demand to be on television every week. The veteran said his boss books him regularly because of what he brings to the table.
On the February 8 episode of Collision, it was announced that Jericho, Bryan Keith, and Big Bill will be in action at Grand Slam Australia. Their opponents are yet to be confirmed.
