Chris Jericho Dismisses Popular Fan Theory On AEW

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho just does what Tony Khan tells him.

Chris Jericho has been at the forefront of AEW since signing with the company back in 2019. The star’s presence played a huge role in the company securing a TV deal, and the sight of a WWE legend appearing for a different promotion helped raise interest.

Jericho went on to become the company’s first-ever World Champion, and while his appearances are more divisive in 2025, he remains a prominent figure.

It’s long been speculated that Jericho has creative control over his storylines and chooses who he works with, given his standing in the industry. However, according to the man himself, that isn’t quite the case.

Chris Jericho Won’t Say No To Tony Khan

During a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Jericho said that while he may make suggestions and make pitches, he never chooses his opponents. The veteran claimed that ever since he signed with the company, he’s never said no to anything Tony Khan has planned for him.

“I don’t choose anything. I might have a suggestion, but most of the time it’s Tony coming up with who he wants me to work with.

I know for example with Mark Briscoe, both of us wanted to work with each other, and knew we could have some great matches. I loved working with Mark and what a great kind of mini-feud, or I guess it was a feud. It was a couple of months long. So that was something that we both wanted to do and suggested to Tony.

But most of the time, this whole thing that started working with Rated FTR, that was Tony’s idea. So yeah, I still work for my boss, and I have never once as far as I can remember in the six years I’ve been in AEW ever said no to something.

I might not like something, but I got to try and do my best to make it work or maybe come up with something that maybe is a better idea as long as the boss likes it. If the boss wants to do what he wants to do then that’s my job. So that’s what we do.”

In the same interview, Chris Jericho said he’s got no plans to retire and lacks the ego for a full-blown retirement tour or match like John Cena and Sting. Jericho said he’s prepared to “go with the flow” rather than try to put a definitive end to his career.
