Chris Jericho Denies Claim About GCW Appearance

Chris Jericho AEW

Chris Jericho has distanced himself from claims about his recent GCW appearance.

Ahead of his match with Matt Cardona at ROH Final Battle, Chris Jericho made a shock appearance at GCW Highest In The Room 3. At the event, Jericho attacked Cardona and EFFY with a baseball bat before leaving to a chorus of boos from the fans.

The appearance came after AEW pulled Ricky Starks from a string of GCW Appearances, seemingly because of comments EFFY made about Tony Khan. While Jericho’s run-in at Highest In The Room was thought to represent a thawing of relations between the two promotions, the ROH World Champion denies this is the case.

During an appearance with Josh Martinez on Z100, Jericho explained that the GCW date was one that made most sense for him to attack Cardona at.

“We were looking at Matt’s dates because I really wanted to do something on an independent show because he’s the King of the Indies and you want to create buzz for this. I wanted to do something that gets extra focus on it.

“I was looking at his independent dates and he was in Los Angeles at GCW and I just happened to have a gig at the Whiskey with KUARANTINE [Jericho’s KISS cover band]. It was literally 20 minutes down the road. When you have something happen with that much serendipity, it’s fate. We have to do this. That’s the basic reason. “

The Learning Tree went on to say he wasn’t extending an olive branch with the appearance.

“Everyone thinks, ‘Is this an olive brand with GCW?’ No. I just happened to be literally in the same city on the same date with this idea of wanting to attack him. We worked it out. KUARANTINE went on later, Matt went on earlier, and we put this together.”

At Final Battle, Jericho successfully defended the ROH Title against Cardona after interference from Big Bill and Bryan Keith.

Chris Jericho Addresses Retirement Possibility

Chris Jericho has discussed his plans for retirement. The star says it isn’t something he’s currently considering, but when he does decide it’s time to hang up his boots, he won’t be going on a “year-long retirement ceremony,” something John Cena and Hiroshi Tanahashi are both doing in 2025.
