Chris Jericho Supports AEW Signing Top Free Agent
Chris Jericho thinks that AEW adding a veteran free agent wrestler would be a smart move.
As the current ROH World Champion, Chris Jericho is proud to represent the brand that is owned by AEW’s Tony Khan. Jericho has been All Elite since Khan announced AEW in January 2019 and many people think that Jericho was the company’s MVP in its first year and in many of the years that followed.
At ROH Final Battle on December 20th in New York City, Chris Jericho will defend the ROH World Title against Matt Cardona, who isn’t even part of the AEW/ROH roster officially.
Matt Cardona has wrestled a few times in AEW, but he hasn’t been signed to a contract despite being a free agent. Jericho and Cardona both worked for WWE for many years with Cardona using the name Zack Ryder.
Chris Jericho Teases Matt Cardona Potentially Signing With AEW
In an interview with GABBY AF, Chris Jericho was asked about Matt Cardona possibly signing with AEW/ROH after their match at Final Battle and Jericho seems to suggest it might happen.
He’s done such a great job of reinventing himself and turning himself into a star, and he’s so much more of a performer and of an asset now as Matt Cardona than he ever was as Zack Ryder. It’s similar to Jon Moxley. Think about Jon Moxley and the comparison to Dean Ambrose. It’s night and day.
So of course, he would be an asset, and I think he’s done a great job since he showed up in AEW, and we’ve done a lot of stuff on Ring of Honor. Matt has done a great job, he had a great match with Bryan Keith. He’s had some great promos, great reactions because he was a surprise.
I expect that we’re gonna tear the house down [at ROH Final Battle], and I’d be very surprised if something doesn’t happen after that. Who knows? Either way, he’s done exactly what he needed to do to become more relevant than he’s ever been, and to become a bigger star than he’s ever been, and that’s why he’s in this position to begin with.”
It’s worth noting that Matt Cardona’s wife Chelsea Green just won the Women’s US Title in WWE. Meanwhile, Cardona has said he would like to return to WWE some day although it’s not known if WWE is interested in bringing him back.
