Chris Benoit’s WWE Theme Being Re-Recorded For Suicide Awareness
Our Lady Peace has re-recorded Chris Benoit’s WWE theme song “Whatever.”
The Canadian rock band had originally recorded the track for WWE’s Forceable Entry album, released in March 2002.
The band’s frontman, Raine Maida, explained that they did not play the song for many years due to a troubled past tied to it. He was obviously referring to Benoit’s murder-suicide in 2007.
However, he also stated that the band members were reclaiming its ownership and using it towards promoting mental health.
In February 2025, Cultaholic reported that Our Lady Peace performed the track for the first time in over 13 years during a show in Calgary.
According to Fightful, the revenue generated from it will go to incentives aimed at preventing suicides.

WWE’s Stand On Mental Health
The incident involving Chris Benoit prompted WWE to reevaluate its approach towards a wrestler’s mental health.
Its Talent Wellness Program, introduced in 2006, was strengthened following the Benoit incident, including the establishment of concussion protocols, cardiovascular screenings, and drug testing.
Test results found brain damage, resulting in scrutiny of Benoit’s head injuries. As a result, WWE banned chair shots to the head and high-risk moves that could potentially cause concussions.
Further, wrestlers under Triple H’s regime are reported to be more content as compared to the time when Vince McMahon was in charge of the Stamford-based promotion.
The cultural shift within the company is paving the way for more open-ended discussions about mental health among wrestlers and the support staff.
