Charlotte Flair Set For WWE Hiatus

Having lost her SmackDown Women’s Championship this past weekend, it would seem Charlotte Flair is set to spend some time away from the ring.

Charlotte Flair returned to WWE right at the end of 2022, making a surprise appearance to challenge Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Flair won the belt in a short contest, and would go on a run of 92 days as title holder.

On the first night of WrestleMania 39, Charlotte Flair lost the title to 2022 Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley, and it would now seem that she is due a hiatus from WWE following the result.

A new report from Pro Wrestling Insider Elite claims Flair won’t be at SmackDown this week and will be away travelling, in a decision which was made outside of the creative direction of her losing the title.

Charlotte Flair will be taking time off from WWE, PWInsiderElite.com has confirmed. We are told that Flair informed WWE she would be taking a break from the company over Wrestlemania 39 weekend. WWE’s creative plans for the Smackdown Women’s Championship, moving it to Rhea Ripley, were locked in place before Flair told WWE she would be taking a break. Flair is not expected to appear at this week’s SmackDown and we are told she was telling those backstage that she and husband Andrade were going to travel. There is no word how long the hiatus will be, but it was a Flair decision, not a WWE Creative move.

Rhea Ripley’s win over Charlotte Flair also made her a women’s Grand Slam champion, having held the Raw, SmackDown, NXT and NXT UK Women’s Championships, as well as the Tag Team Championships.
