Charlotte Flair Pitched Different Ring Name As Tribute To WWE Legend

Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair wanted to use a different ring name.

When she made her NXT debut back in 2013, Ashley Fliehr did so under the name Charlotte. However, as her career progressed, WWE placed an increasing importance on her very famous family name, and by 2016, she was known throughout the company as Charlotte Flair.

However, if Flair had gotten her own way, she wouldn’t have used that name at all.

During an appearance on The Ringer Wrestling Show, Flair revealed that she originally wanted to be called Elizabeth Reid. She explained that Elizabeth was in tribute to WWE legend Miss Elizabeth, while Reid was a reference to her brother.

“I think they named me Charlotte as like a joke. I did love Charlotte from ‘Sex and the City,’ but I pitched, because I love Miss Elizabeth, I pitched Elizabeth. Elizabeth Reid was one because of my brother. He was still alive then, but pretty much kind of…Elizabeth was part of my name.

Charlotte, I think they went with because ‘Ric is billed from Charlotte. This is easy.’”

Charlotte Flair Responds To Controversy

In recent days, Charlotte Flair has found herself in the middle of yet another controversy, but this time seemingly not of her own making.

Throughout WrestleMania weekend, there’s been talk online of Flair unfollowing Becky Lynch and Nia Jax on social media, while Jax’s comments about the former Women’s Champion at the WrestleMania Roast event have also caused a stir.

In response, Flair simply wrote on social media, “IDK. I’m just going to wrestle.”
