Charlotte Flair Hates Famous WWE Match
Charlotte Flair made history, but the match wasn’t one to remember for the WWE star.
At Survivor Series 2018, Becky Lynch was due to face Ronda Rousey in one of the biggest women’s matches in WWE history, but plans were thrown into chaos by an errant punch from Nia Jax. As a result, she was pulled from the match and replaced by Charlotte Flair.
For several months, the three women continued to orbit one another, eventually meeting in a Triple Threat Match in the main event of WrestleMania 35. Not only did Lynch walk out with the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles, but all three stars made history as the first women to ever headline WrestleMania.
Charlotte Flair Reflects On WrestleMania History
During a new appearance on the Games with Names podcast, Flair looked back on Survivor Series 2018 and the run-up to WrestleMania 35. With regard to WrestleMania, Flair pointed out that the history made with Lynch and Rousey won’t be repeated unless the event returns to being one night.
She went on to add that she, Rousey, and Lynch wouldn’t have headlined WrestleMania at all if it wasn’t for the former UFC star who brought legitimacy to the women’s division. Flair then disagreed with Lynch, although she didn’t name her, who said Rousey couldn’t wrestle.
We would have not main evented WrestleMania had it not been for Ronda (Rousey). Hands down. When she wanted to kind of join what we had already started to build but her star power, her credibility, her outside influence, the audience that she brought. Kudos to her.
I know that, you know, someone said in her book that she couldn’t wrestle but at the end of the day, it really didn’t matter. She was Ronda and she didn’t need to. She had such an aura to her and really did figure it out and brought that much to the table so, I thank her for what she did for us, because, she didn’t have to come wrestle. She’d already done it all and it was real. So she just added that legitimacy to what we were trying to do that we didn’t have and she caught on.”
While reflecting on the match itself, Flair surprisingly admitted that she hates it, even though Rousey liked it.
“I hated our ‘Mania (35) match. She (Ronda Rousey) liked it, I hated it… The ending. It’s all about the story. The match… But the story. The story was insane.”
Meanwhile, Shotzi has revealed that Charlotte Flair was the first person to reach out to her after WWE released her. The star said that since they first wrestled, Flair had become a close friend, and they continued to support each other through difficult times.
