Charlotte Flair Wants To Go Back To Earlier Version Of Her Character
Charlotte Flair is looking to the future.
Through the second half of 2023, Charlotte Flair leaned into her babyface character like never before and even sided with long-time rival Becky Lynch at Survivor Series WarGames.
However, things went off the rails that December when she suffered a major knee injury on SmackDown. As a result, she missed the entirety of 2024 before returning to win the 2025 Women’s Royal Rumble.
Although she was again presented as a babyface, it was reported that WWE reverted Charlotte Flair to being a heel after she was heavily booed on Raw, despite cutting a promo about fighting back from knee surgery.
Charlotte Flair Wants To Move Away From Being A Heel
During an interview with Bill Prichard for Wrestle Zone during WrestleMania 41 weekend, published on July 4, Flair said she was really beginning to find her groove as a fan favourite before she got injured. However, she did concede that returning to win the Royal Rumble made it difficult for fans to see her in a sympathetic light.
“Before I got injured, I was really in a groove being a good guy. [I] really enjoyed it. I was really getting that ‘good guy reaction’ on live events. And it was like the first time in my career that I felt like comfortable as a good guy. I just went with it, I loved it and I was digging it.
Then I got hurt and when I came back, and how I came back. Obviously winning the Rumble twice isn’t like — and I don’t mean this in a bad way — but you don’t want the Yankees to always win, you know what I mean?” she explained. “So that is harder to gain that sympathy, that good guy feel.”
Flair added that she hoped to eventually be able to return to being a babyface because she enjoys interacting with younger fans.
“But I do hope later down the road that I can transition back into that because I really do enjoy seeing the kids,” Flair said. “And that’s what it’s all about, right? It’s the fan interaction, and if it wasn’t for you guys, we’d be out of business.”
Following WrestleMania, Flair has continued to come up short as she tries to get back into title contention. First, the star failed to qualify for the Money In The Bank Ladder Match before falling in the opening round of the Queen of the Ring tournament.
On the June 27 edition of SmackDown, Alexa Bliss suggested that the pair team up for a mutual benefit, even if they aren’t friends.
