Charles Robinson Feared The Worst After WWE Night Of Champions Attack
WWE official Charles Robinson admits he got lucky.
At Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, John Cena put the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against CM Punk, and predictably, the match ended in chaos.
During the match, Cena accidentally took out the referee before Punk hit him with a GTS and stood on the brink of victory. As Punk called for another referee, Seth Rollins, Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed arrived instead.
Punk was suitably destroyed, and when Rollins gave the signal, veteran Charles Robinson sprinted to the ring. However, just before he made it, he was tackled out of nowhere by Cena and sent flying into the air, landing just short of the steel steps.
More madness led to Penta and Sami Zayn getting involved, until Cena finally got the win after Rollins had beaten down Punk once again.
Charles Robinson Reflects On Scary WWE Incident
During an appearance on the Raw Recap, Robinson reflected on his painful night at Night of Champions. He revealed that Rollins spoke to him ahead of the main event, seemingly to prepare him for a Money in the Bank cash-in. He added that when he sprinted to the ring, he wasn’t going 100%, something he believes helped him when he was jumped by Cena.
“It was a very wild scene. I was up in gorilla position. I just wanted to watch the last match, you know, before I got changed, tore down the ring. All of a sudden, Seth Rollins comes up. He goes, ‘hey, when I call you, come down.’ He had the briefcase in his hand. So I figured we’re going to have a historic cash-in of the briefcase.
I’m standing there, and all of a sudden, he gives the little (gestures) and I take off. So I’m running as hard as I can. Well, this is a cash in. So I’m running about 80%. I’m not giving it my all. If you look at the video, I’m trying to hold back. I’m trying to hold back a little bit. Thank God. Because if I’ve been going 100%, the collision would have been much worse.
But I’m running down the ramp and I see movement out of my eye. I thought it was Stu, the camera guy. So then I divert back straight. All of a sudden, bam. I’m airborne. They tell me that John Cena hit me. Is that who hit me?”
Robinson explained that it was only pure chance that things hadn’t been much worse.
“I thought I’m dead. I had no idea what happened. So like I said, I was only running 80%. So a hundred percent, it could have been different. I mean, that was a long runway, too. I mean, if you look at where I landed, I was inches from the stairs. I mean, when you’re up in the air like that, there’s no way that you’re sitting there, like, you know, calculating exactly where you’re going to land. It was zero me. It had nothing to do with me. I just ran in a straight line, and he hit me. I mean… I went where he put me.”
Next up for John Cena is a date with Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam after the American Nightmare won the King of the Ring tournament.
