Multiple Champions Competing In AEW Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament
Mercedes Mone is just one of the champions who will be in AEW’s Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament.
The stakes were raised in 2024 when it comes to the Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments. While in 2022 and 2023, the winners received a trophy and a title belt, the 2024 winners received World Title matches at the AEW All In PPV.
In the 2025 edition of the Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament, the winners will also receive World Title matches at AEW All In Texas on July 12th.
During AEW Dynamite in Peoria, the men’s and women’s tournament competitors were announced. The quarterfinal matches look like this:
* Jamie Hayter vs. Billie Starkz
* Thunder Rosa vs. Kris Statlander
* Julia Hart vs. Mercedes Mone
* Harley Cameron vs. Athena
Mercedes Mone is the current TBS Champion, who has held the title for 312 days. If she holds the title until May 26th, it will be a one-year title reign.
Another champion in the field because Athena has been the ROH Women’s Champion for over two years. Athena’s reign has lasted over 840 days.
There are also former champions in the field since Jamie Hayter and Thunder Rosa are former AEW Women’s World Champions. Meanwhile, Kris Statlander and Julia Hart are former TBS Champions. Billie Starkz and Harley Cameron round out the field as two women who have a lot of positive momentum and bright futures.
Mercedes Mone Match Against Athena Likely Taking Place During AEW Women’s Owen Hart Cup
It was recently reported that AEW was planning to do a Mone-Athena match “way sooner than expected,” and based on the tournament brackets, that could be in the semifinals of the Women’s Owen Hart Cup.
The April 5th episode of AEW Collision, which was taped after Dynamite this week, will feature Mone in tag team action with Harley Cameron against Athena & Julia Hart, so it will be a preview of what a Mone/Athena match would look like.
After revealing the tournament brackets, Mercedes Mone was interviewed by Renee Paquette on Dynamite in Peoria. Regarding Julia Hart, Mone said it will take more than tricks and spells to stop the Mone Train. Harley Cameron walked up to talk about teaming with Mone on Collision. Cameron had her puppet with her. Cameron suggested they were a Dream Team. A frustrated Mone told Cameron to stay out of her way. After Mone left, Cameron said they were the Mone Wrath Train.
Later on Dynamite, AEW also announced that Mercedes Mone’s match with Julia Hart will take place at the Dynasty PPV on Sunday, April 6th in Philadelphia.
