According to a former World Champion, Chad Gable is the modern Kurt Angle.

On the January 13th episode of Monday Night Raw, Penta finally made his WWE debut. The former AEW star’s arrival had been teased on television for several weeks, and even Michael Cole on commentary noted that it was the worst-kept secret in the business.

As expected, Penta impressed opposite Chad Gable before ultimately getting the win and telling fans it was the dawn of a new era.

But while most of the attention has been on Penta, one veteran made sure to acknowledge Gable’s vital role in the debut.

WWE Hall Of Famer Love Chad Gable

During an appearance on Something to Wrestle, JBL looked back on Penta’s debut on Raw but explained why it’s important Gable’s contribution to the match is recognised. The Hall of Famer went on to praise Gable for how he did everything he could to showcase Penta’s skills to a new audience.

“They [WWE] do debuts better than anybody else. It’s absolutely unbelievable. To put him out there with Chad Gable, Gable is God’s gift to wrestling, man. He’s just like a modern-day Kurt Angle. He can do absolutely anything.

He is so freaking talented and so good at what he does. He’s a lot like Kurt as far as what he does with his microphone skills, what he does in the ring, he can do comedy, he does serious stuff, he can be a great wrestler.

I mean, that’s the right guy, and that’s so important to put Penta out there with somebody like Chad Gable. Now, Penta, obviously, is a huge star. He’s gonna be a star no matter what. But you give him a guy like Chad Gable, and Gable helps make him.

I thought the debut was absolutely fantastic. It’s going to really help. This is huge, I think, for WWE, especially with the Latino population… He’s like Rey Mysterio. You say, ‘Rey Mysterio is one of the greatest Luchadors of all time.’ Rey Mysterio is one of the greatest of all time period.

This has nothing to do with any type of demographic, but it does help when you want to run Mexico, when you want to run the Southwest in the United States, to have a great Latino star, and he is absolutely fantastic.”

It’s since been reported that AEW stars are now more open than ever to signing with WWE in large part due to Penta’s impressive debut on Raw. The report claimed that people in AEW previously believed they’d get lost in the shuffle in WWE but now feel they could featured prominently.
