Chad Gable Reveals Change That Was Made To “Viking Rules Match” On Raw
The Alpha Academy’s Chad Gable revealed an interesting detail about a change that WWE made prior to the “Viking Rules Match” on Raw.
There has been a rivalry between The Alpha Academy and the Viking Raiders for a few months. It has involved the two male tag teams with “SHOOSH PLEASE” Chad Gable & Otis representing the Alpha Academy against The Viking Raiders duo of Erik & Ivar. During their recent big match on Raw, Gable says there was a change to it before they went out there.
In addition to the two male tag teams, the Viking Raiders are joined by Erik’s wife Valhalla (formerly known as Sarah Logan) while the AA guys have Maxxine Dupri on their side. There has been an ongoing story about how Gable has trained Dupri to wrestle as well.
The teams had a unique “Viking Rules Match” on the July 17th edition of Raw. That meant that anything goes and there was an additional platform in addition to the ring that was part of a “ship” to represent the viking team.
That Viking Rules Match was won by the Viking Raiders after Valhalla gave Dupri a Spear through a table. The Viking Raiders finished off Otis with a Ragnarok (double Powerbomb) for the pinfall win.
During an appearance on WWE After The Bell podcast, Chad Gable revealed their time was cut for the Viking Rules Match, but they still managed to do everything they wanted to do in the match.
“We had our time allotted, and we knew what we had, and it got cut, like so often happens with what we do. It’s a live TV show, this stuff happens. You’re always prepared for that going in. This was that one time where, and I’m always professional, I do my best to maintain professionalism. We were told, ‘your time is cut, we have to get rid of some stuff.’ I was like, ‘No. We’ll do it. We’ll make it work.’ We won’t be unprofessional and steal other people’s time, but we’re going to do what we planned because this is awesome and people deserve to see this.”
“This whole story we’ve told, where we crammed a lot of stuff into 60-second backstage segments or 45 seconds here to tell a story as quick as we can about me coaching Maxxine and they get 30 seconds to respond. That stuff all worked so well that we got given more time to build to this payout, so we’re going to make the most of this payout.”
“We deserved it, and I felt like we earned the right to do all of our art that night and deliver the masterpiece we got in eight minutes of Raw. I think we did it. It was a moment where I was like, ‘We’re not going to get rid of anything or change anything, let’s just do it.’ It worked out.”
What’s Next For Chad Gable And The Alpha Academy?
It was announced this past Monday on Raw that the next Raw on July 31st, Maxxine Dupri will have her first singles match against Valhalla. We will have to see if Coach Chad Gable will be able to coach Maxxine to victory or if the Viking Raiders will pick up another big victory in this rivalry.
