Bully Ray Believes AEW Star Is “Grossly Underutilized”
Tony Khan isn’t doing enough with an AEW veteran according to Bully Ray.
At Revolution, Christian Cage came within touching distance of the AEW World Championship, but when all was said and done, he left the event without the gold.
In the main event, Jon Moxley put the World Title on the line against Cope, but it wasn’t long until the match descended into chaos.
Following interference from Wheeler Yuta and Jay White, Cage arrived to cash in his World Title contract. This made the bout a three-way match, but despite being the fresher man, Cage was quickly trapped in a chokehold by Moxley and he passed out, losing the match in the process.
It’s since been announced that Jon Moxley and Cope will do battle one more time, and the winner will go on to face Swerve Strickland at Dynasty.
A Top AEW Star Deserves More
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray looked back on Revolution and suggested that Cage remains underutilized.
“I have been a believer, or it has been my opinion, that Christian is grossly underutilized in AEW,”
However, Tommy Dreamer had a very different take, suggesting that despite not winning the World Championship, Cage is being used effectively.
“If I’m comparing apples to oranges, he wasn’t used in WWE. So, when he is in AEW, he’s being utilized. Could he, and should he, be the top guy of that company as a heel? Absolutely. But he’s on TV. And all of his matches and segments are good.”
On the March 12 episode of Dynamite, Cage claimed that he’d actually been hard done by at Revolution. In a backstage segment with the rest of The Patriarchy, he said he’d asked the referee for a one-on-one match with Cope, and when he was put in an illegal choke hold by Moxley, he was only regulating his breathing when the referee stepped in. He adamantly denied passing out.
However, Cage was stunned when Nick Wayne called him out for making excuses, leading to a tense exchange between all members of the group.
