Bryan Danielson Reveals 1 Sad Similarity Between Landmark WWE & AEW Wins
Bryan Danielson has revealed the one unfortunate similarity between his WWE WrestleMania 30 and his AEW World Championship wins.
At All In London, Bryan Danielson captured the AEW World Championship for the very first time when he defeated Swerve Strickland to give fans a hugely emotional moment.
Danielson’s been living on borrowed time in the ring and as he teases the end of his wrestling career, he’s admitted that when he loses his AEW Title, he’ll be calling it a day – on a full-time basis at least.
His win mirrored one from a decade earlier in his career. Fan support had catapulted the star then known as Daniel Bryan in WWE to the main event of WrestleMania 30 where he overcame Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton in one night to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Bryan Danielson Needs Surgery
Speaking to Justin Barrasso, Bryan Danielson gave his thoughts on the similarities between then and now and admitted that just like in 2014, time is running out before he has to go under the knife again:
It’s interesting to see all the differences and similarities between winning the belt now in AEW to winning the belt 10 years ago at WrestleMania 30. The oddest similarity, at least to me, is the neck problem.
I was told around December of 2013, only a few months before WrestleMania 30, that I’d definitely need neck surgery; it was just a matter of when. I was able to get through WrestleMania.
I’d been getting this horrible, shooting nerve pain down my right arm. But as long as I still had strength in my right arm, that meant I didn’t need surgery yet. So I won the title, and the day before my first title defense, which was like a falls-count-anywhere match, I got into my car to make the drive. When I went to unlock my car door, I didn’t have the strength to turn the key and unlock the door. That was a bad sign. The very next day, I did a diving headbutt off a forklift, which was me being an idiot.
So the neck issues are very similar. Sooner rather than later, I’ll need neck surgery. I’m not losing strength, so I don’t need it just yet.
Bryan Danielson will be back in the ring (if he’s medically cleared) at AEW Grand Slam where he will face off with his long-time rival Nigel McGuinness. Jon Moxley and Danielson’s former partners in the Blackpool Combat Club will likely be keeping a close eye on that bout.
