Bryan Danielson Wants More Matches With Top AEW Star
There is one particular wrestler in AEW who Bryan Danielson would have liked to be in the ring with more often.
The end of Bryan Danielson’s career as a full-time wrestler is coming soon. The former WWE Champion has said repeatedly that he will wrap up his run as a full-time wrestler toward the end of 2024.
While Danielson has also said he wants to wrestle for many more years, he’s only going to do that on a part-time basis meaning there might only be a handful of matches per year instead of wrestling on a more regular basis like he’s doing now.
Bryan Danielson is on a roll after winning the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament by beating “Hangman” Adam Page in the finals of the tournament on Dynamite in Calgary. By winning that tournament, Danielson will receive a shot at the AEW World Title held by Swerve Strickland at the AEW All In PPV at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Danielson spoke about how he has enjoyed his long rivalry with “Hangman” Adam Page, but he thought when he signed with AEW he’d have a series of matches with Kenny Omega.
“Me and Kenny, unfortunately, we’ve only had the one match. When I came to AEW, I envisioned having these series of matches with Kenny. Instead, it’s been Hangman, and I’ve learned firsthand how incredible he is.”
The only AEW singles match between Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega was on the September 22nd, 2021 edition of AEW Dynamite. It was a 30-minute time limit draw. They were also in two tag team matches in AEW as well. They did wrestle in singles in 2009, which was before Bryan was in AEW.
Omega has been out of action since December 2023 due to a serious diverticulitis illness, which required surgery. There is hope that Omega will wrestle again, but there’s no timeline for when exactly he might make his return to the ring.
What Makes Bryan Danielson And Hangman Page So Good Together?
As for his rivalry with “Hangman” Adam Page, Danielson did his best to sum up why he enjoys wrestling the former AEW World Champion.
“Hangman’s the man. That dude’s awesome. When AEW started, he was the one everyone was pointing to as the future, as the guy who was going to lead the company forward. The personality he brings, the intensity–I think that’s where we find our chemistry. We both love these intense matches. There’s not a lot of pulled punches, right? And maybe that’s what makes the two of us so good together.”
Danielson’s not currently advertised for AEW Dynamite episode 250 on July 17th, but his All In opponent Swerve Strickland has a tough test on that show when he faces Kazuchika Okada in one of the big matches set to take place.
