Bryan Danielson Hurled Insults At AEW Rival For Motivation
An AEW wrestler has recalled the time when Bryan Danielson used insults as a motivational tool to produce a great match.
Bryan Danielson’s days as a full-time wrestler ended at WrestleDream when he lost the AEW World Title to his former friend Jon Moxley. Despite that loss, Bryan had an incredible year that saw him produce a lot of incredible matches and moments that will last forever.
As an AEW wrestler, Danielson faced off against a lot of the biggest names in the company whether they were veterans like him or younger guys looking to beat a big name like Danielson.
At AEW All Out 2023, Bryan Danielson beat Ricky Starks in a brutal Strap Match that was one of the better matches on the show.
Ricky Starks spoke about that Strap Match with Danielson on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast while unveiling some of the unique trash-talking that Danielson used during the match.
“I’m sitting backwards, and that first whack from the leather strap echoes throughout the arena. I remember feeling this jolt. Later on, Bryan is tagging me in the face with the strap and he’s like, ‘Are you going to take it? Are you a man?’
This is my theory. I think Bryan thought I was a pu**y. I think he thought I was a pu**y because of how I look. ‘This pretty boy is going to welt.’ What I’m trying to say is, he wanted to test me, and I love that. I love that he wanted to test me and I definitely think I passed with flying colors.”
Bryan Danielson Yelled At Ricky Starks “In The Most Positive Way”
When Ricky Starks was asked if he spoke with Bryan Danielson after the bout, Starks confirmed that they did.
“Absolutely we did. He yelled at me in the most positive way in Gorilla and said, ‘You have been given obstacle after obstacle and you have f**king knocked it out of the park every single time. Every single time! Every single time you have delivered when they thought you would drown. That right there, if anybody had an ounce of doubt about you, you have proven them that you are who you say you are. That is a main event.’ That’s what he said to me.”
While Danielson’s days as a full-timer in AEW are over, Starks is healthy and ready to compete, but AEW has decided to keep him on the bench while Starks admits he doesn’t know why.
