Bryan Danielson Facing Former Rival At AEW Dynamite Grand Slam

Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson will be in action at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam against somebody he hasn’t faced in the ring for a very long time.

At AEW All Out, Bryan Danielson successfully defended the AEW World Championship against the TNT Champion Jack Perry.

After the match at All Out, Danielson was shockingly attacked by his friends in the Blackpool Combat Club – Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli. Claudio nailed Bryan with an uppercut while Moxley put a plastic bag over Bryan’s head, which was an uncomfortable visual for a lot of people watching at home.

On AEW Dynamite from Lexington, Danielson wasn’t there, but he was mentioned many times throughout the show.

There was supposed to be an AEW World Title match at Dynamite Grand Slam on September 25th with Darby Allin challenging Danielson for the World Title, but that has changed. That’s because Jon Moxley challenged Allin to put up his title shot and Allin accepted.

Nigel McGuinness is an AEW announcer who regularly works on Collision along with Tony Schiavone. Since joining AEW a few years ago, McGuinness has trashed Danielson repeatedly due to their past as rivals in Ring of Honor in the late 2000s decade.

While on Dynamite, Nigel said that with Darby Allin putting his title shot on the line, there won’t be an AEW World Title match at Grand Slam. Nigel trashed the AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson for being injured after what Jon Moxley did to him.

As he spoke, Nigel had a piece of paper in his hand. Nigel said that Danielson is afraid of the one match that everybody wants to see. Nigel said that Tony Khan isn’t afraid because Tony knows a money match when he sees one. Nigel held the paper out and said that at Grand Slam, it will be Bryan Danielson against Nigel McGuinness.

A giddy Nigel said that Oasis will play him to the ring, but will Danielson join him in the final countdown or have we seen the final match of the American Coward? Nigel said that the ball is in your court, Bryan. The fans cheered at the end of it.

At AEW All In, Nigel McGuinness was a surprise entrant in the Casino Gauntlet Match. While McGunness didn’t win the match, he did have an impressive showing in what was his first pro wrestling match since he retired in 2011 at 35 years of age.

When Was The Last Bryan Danielson-Nigel McGuinness Match?

During their Ring of Honor careers, Danielson and McGuinness had one of the greatest rivalries in the history of the promotion. Their last match took place at the September 26, 2009, ROH Final Countdown event at New York City’s Manhattan Center. Danielson went on to WWE by early 2010 while McGuinness was supposed to go there too, but an injury and other factors prevented it.

After nearly 15 years, Bryan Danielson will have a match with Nigel McGuinness once again, this time at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam.

While promoting the match on social media, Tony Khan and AEW claim that the Danielson-McGuinness match will take place if Danielson is cleared.
