Bryan Danielson Favourite To Land Major Honour Before Retirement

Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson could end his full-time career with a bang.

At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Bryan Danielson defeated Shingo Takagi to advance in the Owen Hart Cup. The veteran then followed that up with another win on Dynamite to earn a spot in the finals, where the winner gets a shot at the AEW World Championship at All In.

On the other side of the draw, Jay White and Adam Page are set to meet in the semi-final, with the winner facing Danielson.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Danielson is now the favourite to go on and win the Owen Hart Cup on July 10th.

Wembley will have Strickland facing the Owen Hart tournament winner, which the favorite would be Danielson, who beat Shingo Takagi to advance on this show.

Meltzer went on to make the case for Danielson beating Swerve Strickland and becoming World Champion, suggesting it would be a huge moment, and there’s only one chance to make it happen.

There is a potential story of Danielson rebounding from all his losses in the last full-time year of his career and at the end, finally winning not only a championship but the AEW title. It is a very viable story and if it isn’t done right now, it probably can never be done…

Danielson has indicated he never wants to stop wrestling, but he’ll be done full-time by the end of this year. But if it’s Danielson, as it appears, it’s about building an historical moment.

Bryan Danielson Doesn’t Want AEW World Championship

Despite the speculation, Bryan Danielson has repeatedly stated he doesn’t want to win the AEW World Championship.

Speaking ahead of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, the American Dragon said he doesn’t feel like being World Champion is a spot he should be in. Danielson added being in the main event of pay-per-views is extremely difficult and it’s not something he feels his body can sustain.
