Bryan Danielson Shares Details Of AEW Backstage Role

Bryan Danielson AEW

Bryan Danielson has given an insight into his backstage work with AEW.

Since signing with AEW in September 2021, Bryan Danielson has become an increasingly important figure away from the cameras. The American Dragon forms part of the company’s disciplinary committee, while also helping with the creative process which owes much to his close relationship with Tony Khan.

The star has made no secret of the fact he’s winding down his in-ring career, which has created intrigue about how his backstage influence might grow and evolve.

In a new interview with The Gorilla Position, Danielson explained how he helps with creative, dismissing the idea he has a formal role.

“How it looks now is I help with creative a little bit. What that usually looks like is it’s not necessarily a formal creative meeting or anything like that. Tony will call me and run some ideas past me or he’ll say like ‘Hey, I was thinking of this. Do you have any ideas for this or something like that?’ But that’s haphazard. It could happen three times in a week. It could not happen at all for three weeks.”

Bryan Danielson Unsure What Retirement Looks Like

At All In, Bryan Danielson will challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Title — a title that the challenger has famously never won. To add even more intrigue, Danielson has declared he’ll retire from in-ring competition if he fails to win.

On the question of retirement, the former WWE star said he’s unsure how this will impact how much work he does backstage. However, he has no desire to continue with life on the road.

“I don’t really know what that part of [my AEW work] will look like [after retirement],” Danielson said. “I think it’s just going to kind of have to evolve naturally and with whatever my comfort level is and their comfort level is. Honestly I don’t want to travel very much so that’s another piece of the wrestling puzzle as far as physically.”

During the same interview, Bryan Danielson said he had no regrets over leaving WWE for AEW, despite the improvements made to the company by Triple H.
