Huge Bryan Danielson AEW Match Not Part Of Long-Term Plans

Bryan Danielson won’t be putting his title on the line at AEW Grand Slam but now more information has come to light about the match he will be having in New York.

Bryan Danielson retained his AEW World Championship at All Out by defeating Jack Perry, but his win came at a heavy cost. After the bout, he was viciously turned on by Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley with Moxley trying to suffocate The American Dragon with a plastic bag.

A new twisted Jon Moxley has emerged in his return to AEW and on Dynamite in Lexington, he finally got the conversation with Darby Allin he was after. Moxley demanded Allin give him his shot at the AEW World Title set for Grand Slam but the former TNT Champion refused. Instead, the two men will clash in Arthur Ashe Stadium with the title shot on the line.

With Bryan Danielson off the hook for a title match, AEW announcer Nigel McGuinness threw down the gauntlet for a long-awaited match in the company with his old Ring of Honor rival. That match has been made official with the caveat that it will only take place if Danielson is medically cleared to compete.

Bryan Danielson Match Thrown Together

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the Danielson/McGuinness match has been a last-minute endeavour despite McGuinness having taken shots at Danielson during his entire time at the AEW announce desk:

From what I understand the whole McGuinness thing was not something long planned out. It was something that kind of got thrown together.

AEW Grand Slam will also see the AEW Tag Team Championship on the line as The Young Bucks will face a whole new challenge in New York City.
