Bruce Prichard Shares Story Of Hall Of Famer Being Mocked For Embarrassing Christmas Gimmick

WWE Executive Director Bruce Prichard reflected on a humorous chapter in the career of Hall of Famer Kane, highlighting how Glenn Jacobs, the man behind the mask, was often the subject of backstage jokes during his early days in wrestling. The ribbing stemmed from one of Jacobs’ most eccentric and memorable early gimmicks: The Christmas Creature.

During a 2018 episode of his Something to Wrestle podcast, Bruce Prichard revisited the peculiar character, which Jacobs portrayed in the USWA. The Christmas Creature, a festive wrestler clad in a green bodysuit adorned with tinsel and ornaments, was a far cry from Kane’s later transformation into the sinister “Big Red Machine.”

Prichard also shared a behind-the-scenes story from 1993 when Jacobs was briefly considered for a role in a high-profile WWE storyline. At the time, there were discussions about including him as one of Shawn Michaels’ knights during the Survivor Series clash against Bret Hart. However, Jacobs’ lack of experience ultimately ruled him out.

Glenn was greener than grass. Glenn was greener than the Christmas tree outfit that he wore as the Christmas Creature from Tennessee, which was hilarious.

The Christmas Creature character became an enduring source of amusement in the WWE locker room. Jacobs’ colleagues would often circulate photos of him in the over-the-top costume, much to everyone’s entertainment.

Every time that picture would surface, we would put it up around the dressing room.

Despite the playful jabs, Jacobs went on to achieve legendary status in wrestling as Kane, becoming one of the most intimidating and respected performers in WWE history. Yet, the image of him as a tinsel-covered monster remains an amusing footnote in his remarkable journey to stardom.

What Did Bruce Prichard Say About Kane’s WWE Debut?

Bruce Prichard recalled how he was instrumental in the debut of the iconic Kane character, he spoke about how he was looking for something for Glenn Jacobs to do in the promotion and that at that time they were looking for an opponent for The Undertaker to feud with and that was how he, and other members of WWE creative, came up with the Kane character.
