Bruce Prichard Gives Insight Into Legendary WWE Debut

Bruce Prichard has reflected on one of WWE’s most successful repackaging efforts.

On October 5th, 1997, at Badd Blood, Kane struck fear into WWE fans around the world for the first time. After being spoken of in hushed tones for months, The Undertaker’s brother — who was believed to be dead, came to get his revenge on the WWE legend.

Kane ripped the door off Hell In A Cell and hit Undertaker with a huge Tombstone causing him to lose to Shawn Michaels.

Although that famous October night was the debut for Kane, Glenn Jacobs had actually been with WWE since 1995, but his previous gimmicks had failed to catch on.

During a recent episode of Something To Wrestle, Bruce Prichard — who was part of WWE’s creative process at the time, recalled putting together Kane’s debut.

“I was looking for something for Kane, or Glenn [Jacobs],” Prichard said. “We needed an adversary for The Undertaker. And it was [a] good story, and [we were] not really sure where we were going to pan out.

The other gimmicks with Glenn Jacobs had failed and this was an opportunity where we didn’t have to rely on his facials at that point, and we could cover him up. And the story was strong enough that we felt as long as he was able to deliver, just even half assed [it] in the ring at that point, it would’ve been a hit.”

Prichard added that Kane’s debut went off exactly as everyone hoped, describing it as “tremendous.”

“Great debut,” Prichard said. “This is one where it came off exactly as we had envisioned. So [I was] ecstatic. It was tremendous.”

Glen Jacobs Admits WWE Return Is Unlikely

Speaking back in February, Glenn Jacobs admitted he could get back in the ring, although another match at this stage is unlikely. Jacobs hasn’t wrestled since making a surprise appearance in the men’s 2021 Royal Rumble match. The veteran hasn’t wrestled a singles match since 2018.

More recently Jacobs ruled out running for President of the United States, commenting that he feels he can make more difference at a local level.
