Brock Lesnar’s Backhand Once Broke A Fellow Wrestler’s Jaw

Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar’s former trainer has told the story of why Brock Lesnar decided to throw a backhand at a fellow wrestler that broke their jaw.

Brock Lesnar is not called The Beast Incarnate for nothing. Lesnar dominated college wrestling for the University of Minnesota, winning the NCAA Division 1 Heavyweight Championship before embarking on a career in the wacky world of pro wrestling.

Lesnar was part of WWE’s developmental territory OVW and is part of the hallowed class of 2002 from that promotion that also saw Randy Orton, John Cena, Batista, and Shelton Benjamin emerge onto the WWE main roster over the same year.

Speaking to WWE Hall of Famers Gerald Brisco and JBL on their Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw show, former OVW trainer Rip Rogers described Brock Lesnar’s introduction to the pro wrestling tradition of ribbing and how Lesnar ended up breaking the joker’s jaw:

“This guy named Vivacious Charles just ribbed [pranked] Brock about something. Brock just stood up and backhanded him. Boom. Charles was on the ground about ready to cry. His jaw’s broke.”

“I said, ‘Brock, he’s just ribbing you.’ He goes, ‘What’s that?’ I said, ‘Oh God.’ I wasn’t gonna ruffle his feathers, oh hell no!”

WWE executive Bruce Prichard also recently discussed how his own run-in with Brock Lesnar left him with a broken nose.
