Brock Lesnar Spot Earned Ex-WWE Star Six-Figure Raise

WWE Brock Lesnar

A former WWE star has revealed that one spot with Brock Lesnar paid dividends as it netted them a six-figure raise.

In 2020, Brock Lesnar kicked off the men’s Royal Rumble despite being the reigning WWE Champion at the time. For the first half of the match, Lesnar dominated proceedings, eliminating one star after another. Lesnar got something of a rest when his old tag team partner, Shelton Benjamin, entered the bout.

Lesnar initially embraced Benjamin, and it seemed the two would team up for the rest of the match. However, after earning his trust, Lesnar immediately eliminated Shelton Benjamin, something the current AEW star wasn’t very happy about.

Shelton Benjamin Wasn’t Keen On Brock Lesnar Spot

Speaking on Maven’s YouTube channel, Shelton Benjamin revealed it was Brock Lesnar’s idea for the spot in the Rumble and says he wasn’t thrilled about it as he feared it made him look stupid for trusting Lesnar:

They originally wanted us to just go at it, and he decided he didn’t want to do that. He said, ‘Let’s do this.’ This whole thing was his idea. I wasn’t really on board with it, only because I’m like, ‘Well, this makes me look stupid.’

So I’m just kind of like, ‘You know what? He’s got 30 other guys he’s got to worry about. Like, just give him the breather. Now, what I didn’t expect was fans to really like it, want it, but I just always wish they would have just let us do something.

However, looking stupid was a small price to pay as Benjamin revealed that when Vince McMahon rewatched the match, he instantly gave Benjamin a very healthy raise:

Here’s the silver lining to all this. I had just signed a new contract with WWE. Vince, I guess, maybe a week or so later, he would re-watch the Rumble. Because of this spot, Vince enjoyed it so much, he immediately had Talent Relations call me in, and they gave me a six-figure raise.

Shelton Benjamin is currently part of AEW, where he has reunited with Bobby Lashley and MVP as The Hurt Syndicate. Benjamin recently gave MJF the second thumbs up he needs to join the group, but Lashley is still holding out on the former AEW World Champion.
