Brock Lesnar Signed New WWE Contract Ahead Of SummerSlam Return

The Ex-WWE And WCW Star Who Nearly Choked Out Brock Lesnar

A new report has given an insight into Brock Lesnar’s contract status.

At SummerSlam, Brock Lesnar shocked the world when he made a surprise return to WWE to attack John Cena. The appearance was Lesnar’s first since SummerSlam 2023, when he lost to Cody Rhodes.

There had been plans for Lesnar to come back in early 2024, but those plans were scrapped after his name appeared in Janel Grant’s sex trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis.

Following his comeback, it was reported that Brock Lesnar had been fully paid and under contract during his absence. However, that wasn’t the case.

Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer corrected his earlier report suggesting that Lesnar had remained under contract. He explained that the star had become a free agent during his absence, but he later signed a new deal.

“A correction regarding Brock Lesnar. Lesnar actually just signed a new contract to return. He was getting paid on his prior contract long after they stopped using him, but that deal did expire and he actually was a free agent for months until the new deal was signed.”

Meltzer added that, unlike with other long-term absentees, WWE couldn’t simply add time to his deal because they were the party that decided not to use him.

“They couldn’t extend the prior deal due to injury like with others because he wasn’t injured and it was their choice not to use him,”

Brock Lesnar Scheduled For SmackDown

A further report has claimed that Brock Lesnar will return to WWE television on the September 5 edition of SmackDown. The star hasn’t appeared since attacking John Cena back at SummerSlam.

It’s also been suggested that this will be Cena’s final appearance on SmackDown before he retires. If that proves to be the case, it means that Cena’s first and last SmackDown appearances will have taken place in the same venue.

Although it’s yet to be announced, Brock Lesnar is expected to face John Cena at Wrestlepalooza. The event could also feature the in-ring return of AJ Lee, a decade on from her last match.
