Why Brock Lesnar Liked Chaotic Energy Of Ex-WWE Star

Brock Lesnar

A former rival of Brock Lesnar believes the former WWE Champion liked some “chaotic energy” during their segments.

When Samoa Joe signed with WWE in 2015, it opened the door for plenty of dream matches for a guy who had been a World Champion in ROH and TNA, but had never been part of WWE.

It took two years for WWE to bring Samoa Joe to the main roster. Once he got there in 2017, he had a good run while feuding with plenty of big names.

Brock Lesnar was one of the top stars in WWE during that period, so there was a lot of anticipation for a Lesnar-Joe rivalry. The only time Lesnar and Joe headlined a WWE PPV was at the strangely named Great Balls of Fire 2017 PLE, which saw Lesnar beat Joe in a match that was only given about seven minutes, which was disappointing.

During the Lesnar rivalry with Joe in the summer of 2017, they had some memorable promo exchanges. Samoa Joe told Chris Van Vliet on his podcast that Lesnar liked some of the things Joe would say in promos.

“Brock was surprised too. [He didn’t know?] No, I mean, well a lot of that too and I’m not sure, there’s a lot of promos I had with Brock. But Brock really liked the kind of chaotic energy, I brought things and he loved that.

I would say whatever I wanted to say to him and to his face because he understood what I’m trying to do, he understood. You want to flip off Brock Lesnar to his face and have people go, ‘What are you doing, dude?’ That uneasiness, that kind of tension in the air.

I think that also is just an important part of bringing interest and care into matches is building that tension, just knowing that when the dam finally breaks all hell’s gonna break loose.”

Vince McMahon Had A Different Reaction To A Brock Lesnar-Samoa Joe Promo Moment

When Samoa Joe did one of his promos with Lesnar, he had a line about how Lesnar should look at him when Joe speaks, which drew a big reaction from the crowd. Joe revealed that while Triple H liked it, former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon (who was running the show at the time) didn’t necessarily love it.

“Yeah, I may have in the grand creative scheme of things went a little overboard there. It was fine. But I just remember when I walked back through the curtain, Hunter is like, ‘Oh, awesome.’ Everybody’s stoked.

And I remember I just looked over at Vince, and he’s just like, [flatly] ‘Yeah, good job.’ Because I think he wanted a different look to how everybody was in the ring.

But sometimes when I’m out there, I’m on the mic and you get me jazzed up, and I’m all my s**t, I just flow with the character, and then it gets wild.”

The best Brock Lesnar-Samoa Joe match was a four-way match at SummerSlam 2017 with Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman that was considered one of the top WWE matches of that year.
