Brian Gerwitz Comments On The Rock Returning To WWE In 2023
Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz has commented on the possibility of The Rock making a return to the WWE ring at WrestleMania 39.
For months now the rumour mill has been in overdrive that Roman Reigns will either succeed or fail in truly cementing his place at The Head Of The Table by taking on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in what would likely be the Hollywood star’s final wrestling match at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles.
Speaking to NBC Sports Boston, former WWE writer and The Rock’s colleague in Seven Bucks Productions Brian Gewirtz has given his thoughts on a potential comeback and says if it happens it will need to live up to expectations:
“I have no idea, and I really don’t. All I know is, if and when Rock, Dwayne, comes back to WWE… the bar he always sets, and wrote about it in the book, you see it in all of his projects, you know, Black Adam. The expectation level is so high, and the audience’s first mentality that is very, very real, it needs to match it. It needs to be something gigantic. Something that’s not just like, ‘oh that’s a nice traction, or oh that’s a main event in any arena across the country,’ kind of thing. Truly meaningful and impactful, you know, ground-shaking, paradigm-shifting, gigantic.”
“Whether or not that manifests itself in a WrestleMania main event, the fan in me would love to see it if it’s the right circumstance and everything, but I don’t know. He’s certainly got a lot of stuff going on between this gigantic movie coming out, our Tales from the Territories show now…”
Gewirtz continued by taking issue with rumours that The Rock’s schedule is clear in February 2023 and says even if he isn’t filming a movie then he has plenty of other things to keep him busy:
“‘Oh he’s not doing anything in February,’ I saw that on the internet at one point. ‘Oh The Rock’s not shooting any movies in February.’ Like no, I don’t know whether he is or not, but he is launching, with Dany, a gigantic football league. So that might take some time too, because Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, no one at Seven Bucks, is of the ilk of ‘Alright, stamp my name on it. We’re not Krusty the Clown, put our face on it and our logo on it and let us know how it does.’”
“We’ll see what happens. Whatever happens, it’ll happen for a reason.”
