Bret Hart “Surprised” WWE Released Current AEW Stars

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has called into question WWE’s decision to release two stars that are currently making major waves in AEW.

2022 has without a doubt been the year of FTR. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler have been on a tear as a team, holding onto the AAA Tag Team Title for well over a year and adding the Ring of Honor Tag Team Championship and IWGP Tag Team Championship to their impressive haul of titles.

Not only have they found success but also critical acclaim with three of their matches receiving the vaunted five stars from Dave Meltzer.

In a previous life, the duo was known as The Revival and was a key part of WWE’s tag team scene. The pair held the NXT, Raw, and SmackDown Tag Team Championships during their time in the company but as their status dwindled they looked to leave the company and eventually did when their deals ran out in April 2020.

During their time in AEW, FTR has become known for – among other things – their love and admiration for Bret Hart. The team has been accompanied to the ring by The Hitman for some independent shows and rumours persisted that Hart could join the pair on AEW television at one point.

Speaking on a virtual signing for K&S WrestleFest, Bret Hart discussed his feelings towards FTR and noted that he was surprised that WWE let them go:

“I think they’re the best tag team right now. I’m surprised [WWE] let them go … they lost ’em; they don’t understand what tag team wrestling is anymore.”

FTR recently reunited with their former Pinnacle teammate Shawn Spears when he returned to AEW television on Rampage in Toronto.
