Bret Hart Wishes He Could Have Wrestled Current WWE Star
WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has revealed that current WWE star Rey Mysterio ranks high on his list of dream opponents he never had the opportunity to face during his illustrious career.
In a candid interview with “The Ringer Wrestling Show,” the five-time WWE Champion expressed regret at never having tested his technical prowess against Mysterio’s high-flying Lucha Libre style, creating what would have undoubtedly been a fascinating clash of wrestling disciplines.
There’s all kinds of different styles and different… you know, I wish I could have wrestled someone like Rey Mysterio. I never really wrestled a Lucha Libre style guy. I would love to have done some stuff, especially if I was a bad guy.
The Canadian wrestling legend, renowned for his technical excellence and in-ring psychology, acknowledged that while he had experience working with high-flyers – particularly his brother Owen Hart – facing Mysterio would have presented a unique challenge that “The Hitman” would have relished.
I would’ve loved to have worked with Rey, although I did wrestle Owen and did a lot of high-flying stuff. You know, I was always a guy that liked a good challenge.
Bret Hart elaborated on his philosophy of making opponents look good while criticising performers who engage in excessive selling. He specifically referenced Shawn Michaels’ notorious overselling in his match against Hulk Hogan, contrasting it with his own approach of being “a model pro inside the ring.”
What makes Hart’s comments particularly poignant is that both men were simultaneously employed by WCW in the late 1990s, yet a match between the two never materialised. Their only collaboration came during Hart’s brief 2010 WWE return when they teamed together at a non-televised house show.
Bret Hart concluded his thoughts by offering high praise for WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, calling the former WWE Champion “one of the greatest wrestlers of all time” and a truly “special” performer, underscoring the mutual respect between these two legends who represent distinct but equally celebrated wrestling traditions.
Bret Hart Would Love To Face This Wrestler Again If He Could
WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has opened up about the one wrestler he’d most like to face again if he could return to his prime – Mr. Perfect. During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Bret Hart revealed that Curt Hennig would be his top choice for one more bout, with his brother Owen Hart a close second.
