Why Plans Changed For Bret Hart’s Role On The Simpsons

Bret Hart Recounts Flying Cross-Country For Back-To-Back Matches

Bret Hart has revealed that his appearance on The Simpsons was different from what the show originally had planned for him.

John Cena is a legendary WWE superstar with 16 WWE World Titles to his name and he will always be remembered as one of the biggest names in company history. Cena is also the second wrestler to be on the iconic television show “The Simpsons” after his appearance on an episode earlier this year.

The first WWE superstar to ever appear on “The Simpsons” was two-time WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, who appeared in a season 8 episode in 1997 called “The Old Man and the Lisa.” During the episode, Bret buys Mr. Burns’ mansion and has a few lines in there.

Bret Hart recently spoke with The Wrestling Classic about how his appearance came to be and how the original idea that showrunners had for him was changed.

“Oh, I was a big fan, so it was a big honor for me. They originally, I remember I wanted to be Bret Hart on the show. And they said, ‘No, it’s just a part for a wrestler.’ I think my wrestler was called the Mad Viking or something like that. So when I did the voiceover, I was the voice for the Mad Viking. I wasn’t Bret Hart, and it’s a little bit different. That’s why when you hear the voiceover, it doesn’t sound like me. I was trying to sound like somebody else.”

The WWE Fans Supporting Bret Hart Led To Change On The Simpsons

While Bret may have voiced a unique character named The Mad Viking, it ended up being the Hitman on the screen.

“But it was after the whole thing was done, the producer came up and I was signing autographs in the parking lot at FOX Studios there, and they had probably about 300 people in a lineup signing autographs for them. And he came up and he goes, ‘I had no idea you were that famous. We’re gonna draw you in as you.’ So they changed it and drew me in as myself. So I was like, that’s where it pays off to be a nice guy and sign some autographs.”
