Bret Hart Slams WWE After Humiliating SummerSlam Incident
Bret “The Hitman” Hart has shared a humiliating experience from WWE SummerSlam.
The five-time world champion’s tumultuous relationship with the Stamford promotion is a storied one.
In November 1997, WWE (in)famously cost him his title, an incident that went down in history as “The Montreal Screwjob.”
Bret Hart joined rival promotion WCW following the incident and spent the subsequent years blaming Vince McMahon, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H for it.
The Hall of Famer returned to the promotion in 2010 after burying the hatchet with Michaels and McMahon backstage.
Bret Hart departed the company in September 2011 and has had sporadic appearances ever since.
The 68-year-old recently recalled a snub from his former employer after initially being invited to be part of SummerSlam.
I went to SummerSlam. They invited me down and, uh, this year, WWE, they told me they wanted me to be in the crowd. And they told me, once I got there that they didn’t have any seats. So, it’s like, um, but I noticed Kevin Nash got a seat. So, I just, sort of, I don’t feel like WWE…I may finally realize that I don’t think they really fully appreciate me.
Bret Hart Liked John Cena’s Heel Run
Bret Hart is synonymous with technical wrestling and has rightly earned the moniker “The Excellence of Execution.”
He was known for his safe in-ring work, and by his own admission, never had a history of legitimately injuring another wrestler.
Hart also recently discussed John Cena on The Rap on Wrestling Podcast, likening his personality to the late Hulk Hogan, and claimed that he was happy with his heel run.
With John Cena, his style, I never saw him ever being a bad guy. He just, to me, was a good guy through and through. I kind of used to say the same thing about Hulk Hogan, that he could never be a bad guy, that he was too sort of cemented into being a baby face. But I will say that John Cena has surprised me and has turned out to be a good heel.
