Bret Hart Gives Honest Answer About Current Relationship With Triple H

Bret Hart and Triple H’s longstanding beef goes back decades, deeply rooted in backstage politics and the infamous 1997 Montreal Screwjob, where Triple H played a controversial role.

Hart has been openly critical of Hunter, especially regarding his in-ring work and his part in WWE’s earlier disputes. Though both have occasionally interacted publicly, their relationship remains tense and marked by past grievances. At the WWE Hall of Fame 2025 ceremony, both Hart and The Game were inducted for significant contributions to wrestling.

Hart was a recipient of the inaugural “Immortal Moment” award for his classic WrestleMania 13 submission match against Stone Cold Steve Austin. Triple H was inducted as a two-time Hall of Famer, celebrated both for his in-ring achievements and his influential behind-the-scenes role as WWE’s Chief Content Officer.

Fans noticed tension between Hart and HHH when they shook hands during the Hall of Fame segment. While the handshake was polite, Hart’s subtle eye roll was captured on camera, fueling speculation about unresolved issues between the two wrestling icons.

Bret Hart Is Still Upset With Triple H

The WWE Hall of Famer laughed it off when asked about it while speaking with Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes. He then admitted he still isn’t sure about his current standing with Triple H, acknowledging the difficulty of moving on from past betrayals.

“Did you guys notice that?”

“I don’t know the answer to that. I tried to move on. I always compare to carrying around a big bag of rocks. If you can just drop that big bag of rocks it’d be a lot better for your mental and emotional state. At the same time, you have to follow your heart. I’m not sure where I stand with Triple H.”

In the same interview, The Hitman also recalled his match with HHH in Germany in February 1997, where the WWE Chief Content Officer tried to bury and destroy him.
