A former WWE star thinks they know why Bray Wyatt was sent back to developmental in 2011.

At the time of his passing, Bray Wyatt was one of the most beloved WWE stars of the modern era. He was known for his creativity, willingness to think outside the box, and incredible relationship with fans young and old.

However, his road to the top of WWE wasn’t always straightforward.

After arriving on the main roster as part of The Nexus under the name Husky Harris in 2011, the star quickly returned to developmental. During this period, Florida Championship Wrestling morphed into NXT, and Harris reinvented himself as Bray Wyatt.

Bray Wyatt Had An Unfortunate Incident With John Cena

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, the now-former Baron Corbin discussed Wyatt being sent back to NXT. The star noted that the rumour, which he believes, is that Wyatt was removed from the main roster by Vince McMahon after he accidentally poked John Cena in the eye.

“I will start with the backstory of it. So when Nexus was up on television, Bray Wyatt was not Bray Wyatt. He was Husky Harris, right? We’re going back here. And there is a rumor that I believe is 100% true.

That Husky poked John Cena in the eye in a match, and Vince was so mad, and Cena was so mad that they sent Husky Harris back to NXT. We’re all grateful for that because Bray Wyatt was born, right?

So this story… and I’m gonna tease Randy [Orton] because Randy’s a buddy of mine, but you’re always taught, like, don’t hit. Randy doesn’t like to be touched. Everybody’s kind of scared to work with Randy. And it’s not like that, Randy’s tough. Sometimes, he’s a baby. Sometimes, Randy, I know you’re listening, you’re kind of a baby. I love you, but this whole rumor of ‘Cena has been poked in the eye a couple of times, and it sent Bray back to NXT for two and a half years.’ This was a massive punishment for that, right?“

Baron Corbin recalled fearing he’d suffer the same fate after a match with Cena in 2016. The star explained that he was fighting back tears while being cussed out by the sure-fire Hall of Famer, who promptly delivered a stiff punch to the face as a receipt.

Despite Corbin fearing the incident would end his WWE career before it started, Cena reassured him everything was fine backstage.
