Reason For Botched WWE Title Change Reportedly Revealed
This week’s WWE NXT episode saw a huge botched match finish that resulted in a massive title change.
Blake Monroe defended the NXT Women’s North American Title against Thea Hail on the December 16 episode of NXT.
Late in the match, Thea hit a springboard back senton style move off the ropes and landed on Blake.
Thea went straight into a pin instead of giving Blake a second to recover.
On camera, you can see Hail cover, Monroe kind of lifted her hand, and tried to move her shoulder.
But she never actually got the shoulder fully off the mat before the count of three.
That is how Thea Hail accidentally won the NXT Women’s North American Title.
The finish looked messy and weird on TV. The sequence was awkward, and both women clearly looked shocked right after the three‑count.
What Went Wrong In Blake Monroe Vs Thea Hail At WWE NXT?
According to reports, the planned finish was for Blake to retain the title, not lose it.
WWE creative had laid out a normal, successful defense for her, continuing her run as champion.
Fightful Select recently reported that the internal belief is that Blake Monroe had the wind knocked out of her just before the scheduled kick‑out.
Because she couldn’t move her upper body properly at that moment, she couldn’t lift her shoulder in time, and the referee had no choice but to count the fall.
After the show, Monroe went on social media and basically leaned into the controversy, posting that it wasn’t the first time she’d been “screwed.”
As per new reports, the accidental title change forced WWE to rewrite upcoming NXT episodes and change creative plans for both women.
