The wrestling world may be buzzing about WrestleMania 40’s main event, but Booker T has one NXT in mind for the WrestleMania 41 main event.
It was a huge WrestleMania 40 press conference in Las Vegas when Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes made it clear he wanted to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title.
With about two months to go until WrestleMania 40, that Cody-Roman match appears to be official, but there are questions about what might happen with The Rock, Seth Rollins and others like Drew McIntyre, who want to get a World Title shot.
Meanwhile, in the land of WWE NXT, Carmelo Hayes got a lot of attention after turning on Trick Williams at the end of the NXT Vengeance Day PLE. That was followed by Melo doing a promo on NXT TV bragging about his steel chair attack on his best friend Trick while also admitting that he attacked Trick back in October.
During his promo, Carmelo Hayes also took a shot at a major Trick Williams supporter Booker T, who is known for putting adlibs in during Trick’s entrance music.
Booker is on the shelf for a few weeks due to a medical issue, but he is expected to return to NXT commentary duties soon. While speaking on his Hall of Fame Podcast, Booker T addressed Melo’s comments about Trick and Booker.
“That tells me a whole lot. It tells me a whole lot about ‘Melo, man. Kid got very, very thin skin. Because me personally, I didn’t do anything to ‘Melo. I thought when I would vibe as far as the ad-libs, as far as Trick Williams’ song, that was just something I was getting into.”
“But that literally had nothing to do with Carmelo Hayes. But it seemed like it did something to him. It seemed like he took offense to it. It perhaps shook his confidence. Maybe it shook his confidence when he had so many title shots and just couldn’t get over the edge after Ilja Dragunov got that spot. Me personally, I don’t know. But I do take it personally, and I talked to the young man about it.”
Trick Williams Could Be A WrestleMania Main Eventer According To Booker T
While some of Booker’s could be construed as two-time Hall of Famer “working” as far as his Melo comments go, Booker went on to praise rising star Williams heavily.
“I have no ill will as far towards Carmelo Hayes. Do I think he’s a guy that’s gonna do a hell of a lot in this business? Oh, yes, I think he’s gonna do a hell of a lot. But Trick Williams, that kid? After what I saw at Vengeance Day, [he] showed up, showed out.”
“How many matches has Trick had on live television? How many has Carmelo had? [Brad Gilmore notes he’s had many more]. Exactly my point.”
“I’m gonna tell you, I can spot talent. I can see when somebody getting ready to get the rocket put on them and get sent straight to the moon. Look here, Trick, this kid could be main eventing WrestleMania next year. Am I gonna say that about ‘Melo? Hell no. I like this kid, he’s a good kid. But so is my next-door neighbor.”
For most of the last two and a half years, Trick was in the background while Melo was winning the NXT Title and the NXT North American Title two times. As for Trick, he is a former NXT North American Champion as well while also earning fan support that is so strong that you could say he’s the most popular wrestler on the brand right now.
