Booker T Apprehensive Over WWE Future After TKO Merger
As NXT gets ready for a big show in partnership with UFC, one WWE Hall of Famer has admitted there’s still apprehension about the future in the company.
It was announced that NXT Battleground will be held at the UFC Apex on Sunday, June 9th. The move marks another significant step in the relationship between the two companies that were officially merged together under the TKO Group banner back in September 2023.
Booker T Still Unsure Over WWE’s Future
Speaking on his Hall Of Fame podcast, NXT announcer Booker T was asked for his thoughts on NXT heading to the UFC Apex and noted while he’s excited after the merger with UFC, he’s still apprehensive about the future:
I have no real feelings either way, man. I’m excited to be a part of the UFC with this merger, TKO. I’m excited about all this stuff. But I feel a little apprehensive at the same time.
Just because the old guard, it’s changed now, and I’m still trying to fit in, trying to make sure…I’ve always been about going to work and doing my job. It’s never been about anything other than going to work and doing my job, and just for the new guys, hey man, I’m here to go out and do my job and do it to the best of my ability. Vic [Joseph] and I, we’ve been having a hell of a run, I must say. People say Vic and I perhaps could be the best duo on television right now. That’s across all sports [laughs].
No, man. I’m excited. I’m excited to get to Apex. This is the first time I’ll get in there. I’ve always wanted to get in there and check out one of the UFC fights, always been busy. But now to be able to go in and do an NXT show and actually see what it’s all about, I’m pretty excited.
Since the takeover was complete, many cuts have taken place behind the scenes and on the WWE roster. Several members of the NXT roster were recently let go while Triple H maintained that Drew Gulak had not been cut but instead, Gulak’s contract simply hadn’t been renewed.
Gulak had been accused of inappropriate behaviour by Ronda Rousey but Triple H did not reveal why Gulak was allowed to leave when recently asked after Backlash France.
