Bizarre WWE Rules Debut In New NXT Match

Shawn Michaels WWE Referee

There was something new on offer for WWE fans watching NXT as a match fought under unusual rules took place on the brand for the very first time.

The 15th of October edition of NXT saw Stephanie Vaquer and Giulia lay down a huge challenge for Halloween Havoc as they helped each other out once again.

Gentlemen’s Duel Rules Revealed On WWE NXT

The show also saw Lexis King and Oro Mensah square off but their bout was anything but a normal WWE match. Instead, King wanted to compete under ‘Gentlemen’s Duel’ rules which were explained to Oro Mensah before the bout. The rules – which some long-time fans might recognise from Cowboy Bill Watts’ time in charge of WCW – included:

  • Can’t strike opponent when they have 4 points of contact on the ground
  • Can’t throw opponent over the top rope and to the floor
  • Competitors have until the referee’s count of 3 (not 5) to break when in the ropes
  • There is absolutely no fighting on the floor

Any violations of these rules would result in an instant disqualification but it didn’t come to that as Lexis King picked up the win over Mensah and even shook his opponent’s hand after the bout.

It remains to be seen if this new gentlemanly version of King will last or if he’s just putting on an act in an attempt to climb the ranks in NXT.
