Big Praise Backstage For Controversial WWE Raw Match
Two WWE stars have been praised backstage.
On the March 24 edition of Monday Night Raw, mysterious Luchador El Grande Americano made his in-ring debut against Dragon Lee. The star, who certainly isn’t Chad Gable, grabbed the win after removing Lee’s mask and forcing him to submit.
The match was met with a huge backlash online after Gable, sorry, El Grande Americano, was billed from the “Gulf of America.” United States President Donald Trump has attempted to re-name the Gulf of Mexico since he returned to office and many fans felt WWE’s use of the term was distasteful and insulting.
The company also came under fire for using generative AI in a video aired ahead of the match.
Controversial WWE Match Praised
However, despite these issues, a new report has claimed the match between Lee and Gable went down a storm backstage. As reported by WrestleVotes via a Sportskeeda Backstage Pass Q&A, there was “heavy praise” for both men.
“I did hear there was some heavy praise coming out of that match last night. Gable and Dragon Lee killed it, crowd loved it, people backstage loved it. And that’s no surprise, Chad Gable has been getting this for years and we know what kind of talent Dragon Lee has. So good on both of them, but I did hear that there was some heavy praise backstage for those two men.”
Elsewhere, WWE reportedly “doesn’t care” about a wave of criticism after it was announced that Tony Hinchcliffe will host the ‘Roast of WrestleMania.’ The comedian is a controversial figure after using several racist tropes during a rally for Donald Trump back in late 2024.
