Big Name Free Agent Backstage At AEW Collision
A former World Champion could be heading to AEW.
Sami Callihan became a free agent on September 30th after his contract with IMPACT Wrestling — soon to be TNA — expired.
After signing with the promotion in 2017, Callihan became a regular on IMPACT television and went on to win the World Championship. The star’s final match with the company aired on October 12th, when he teamed with Rich Swan in defeat to The Rascalz.
However, it seems that Callihan might not be a free agent for long. It’s been reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Callihan was backstage at the October 21st episode of Collision.
On the show, Bryan Danielson saw off Andrade El Idolo in what was promoted as a “dream match,” Miro defeated Action Andretti and Jeff Jarrett got the better of Eddie Kingston via multiple helping hands from Karen Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh. By winning the Memphis Street Fight, Jarrett earned a Ring of Honor World Title shot for Jay Lethal.
Jon Moxley Pushing AEW To Sign Sami Callihan
While there has been no word on whether Callihan will actually sign with AEW, he does have one big-name supporter within the company. After the news of his free agent status broke, it was reported that Jon Moxley had been pushing for AEW to sign the star.
The pair teamed regularly on the independent scene between 2009 and 2011 as The Switchblades. They reunited for two matches in 2022.
Jon Moxley made his own return to television on Collision after suffering a concussion at Grand Slam.
