Big E has recalled what it felt like when he got to become Mr. Money in the Bank leading to the best run of his career.

There are some Money in the Bank winners in WWE that are celebrated in a big way while other victors lead to groans among fans. In the case of Big E winning Money in the Bank in 2021, it felt like he was the right guy at the right time and the WWE Universe absolutely loved to see it.

Prior to the Money in the Bank victory, Big E had spent the previous six years as part of the New Day group, which meant he was often wrestling in tag team matches as part of one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history. Big E also had a run as the Intercontinental Title early in his career, but it was brief and before his character was really developed.

By the time we got to Money in the Bank 2021 at a time when fans were back at WWE shows following the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down things for over a year, Big E was the guy that fans wanted to see as Mr. Money in the Bank.

When Big E won Money in the Bank, there was a huge ovation for him. Two months later on the September 13th edition of Raw, Big E cashed in on Bobby Lashley to become WWE Champion for the first time. Big E celebrated with New Day’s Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods while the fans cheered as loudly as any WWE Title win in recent memory.

During an appearance on WWE’s After The Bell podcast this week, Big E recalled how important that Money in the Bank was for his career.

“You want to make moments that move people that they remember that they could say, ‘oh, you know, 5, 10 years ago, 15 years ago, I was in the building. I remember that. I shed a tear, I clapped, I texted my buddy,’ whatever it was that’s why we do what we do. Those are the special moments. So that was the biggest thing is for me.”

“I just remember standing up there looking out and thinking man, I got to this position in my career, something that, you know, if I had finished my entire career, and never got to be World Champion never got to hold that briefcase. I’m still a part of one of the greatest factions of all time, I still had the opportunity to do so many incredible things.”

“So, this moment is so special because I’ve already done incredible things, but now I’m getting to add another chapter to my story, to my time in this industry, of feeling all the love from fans. That was a moment that is so special to me. And I want to thank everyone that was in the building, everyone that sent tweets because as a performer, that’s one of the like, I have a few things that always hold special in the ring, in my mind, and that’s definitely one of those things.”

Sadly, Big E hasn’t been able to wrestle for WWE since March 2022 when he suffered a broken neck after taking a suplex from Ridge Holland on the floor on Smackdown. There has been optimism about Big E coming back to wrestle some day, but it’s been over 15 months now.
