Big E Recalls His Biggest Fear During WWE Money In The Bank
Big E loved winning WWE’s Money in the Bank briefcase, but he did fear something when it came to climbing the ladder.
It could be argued that in the 19-year history of the WWE Money in the Bank Contract Ladder match, one of the most beloved winners of them all was Big E, who captured the coveted briefcase in 2021.
That was an event that came at a time when the world opened back up after over a year of being shut down due to COVID-19, so when Big E won, it drew a huge ovation from the fans.
Big E would go on to win the WWE Title in September 2021 to become the second member of The New Day to be a WWE Champion, joining Kofi Kingston.
While speaking to Adrian Hernandez about the Money in the Bank match, Big E spoke about his love for Money in the Bank.
“I love the Money in the Bank match because it can take someone who might be on the rise and you get to skip the line. You get to go right to the top. It changed so much for me, I spent so much of my career in the mid-card, in tag teams. I’m so proud of what we did as a tag team with The New Day but winning the Money in the Bank just changed things. It really catapulted my singles run, got to be World Champion because of it.
When I got to the top of that ladder and looked out and saw that love and that reaction, I’m getting chills just thinking about it. To me, stats are one thing, length of title reigns, those are important. But it’s about the moments with fans and how the fans take to you. That’s what I am so appreciative of. I think so often of that moment, being on top of that ladder.”
What Was Big E Thinking About At The Top Of The Ladder?
As he continued, Big E spoke about how he was worried that he may be unable to unhook the Money in the Bank briefcase from the hook above the ring. However, he was able to do it just fine.
“The first thing when I got up there, I always think of Jack Swagger when he was up there and Swagger was up there fumbling with that carabiner, and that’s the last thing you want. You don’t want to be up there fumbling with it. I was like just make sure you get it clean. It clipped for a little bit but I was able to get it smoothly.
I’m not great with heights either so I am trying to make sure, God forbid that thing teeters and you fall off and climb back up. No, the moment is ruined. So I was thankful I was able to unhook the carabiner fairly smoothly. But being up there on that ladder filled with adrenaline, that is special. I wish I could bottle it and it give it to everybody because it is special.”
The popular powerhouse Big E hasn’t been able to wrestle since March 2022 due to a broken neck. However, Big E recently spoke about going through stem cell therapy in an attempt to heal and possibly return to the ring one day.
While he’s been unable to be in the ring, Big E has been a part of recent WWE PLE Countdown shows as well as post-shows like Money in the Bank earlier this month.
