Big E At Peace With The End Of His In-Ring Career

Big E is content with whatever comes next.

Former WWE Champion Big E has been out of action since March 11th, 2022. During a tag team match on SmackDown, the star landed high up on his neck while taking a Belly-to-Belly Suplex outside the ring from Ridge Holland.

Although he managed to avoid surgery, it was quickly confirmed that the New Day man had broken his neck.

Since the accident, Big E has been open about his recovery and the very real possibility he’ll never wrestle again. In an update in September, he said that his future is very much in the hands of his doctors and the regular scans he has to check his progress. But he did admit that if given the all-clear, he’d be more than ready to resume his career.

Big E Is Looking To The Future

In a new essay for the Player’s Tribune ahead of the New Day’s 10th-anniversary celebrations on Raw, Big E reflected on the group’s success, his friendship with Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, and his own future.

Interestingly, while E didn’t fully close the door on an in-ring comeback, he said he’s at peace with the fact he may never wrestle again.

You know that thing I said earlier — how I’m someone who spent his past not being able to picture a future?

I can picture one now.

Which is ironic, I guess, since I broke my neck and can’t wrestle. But I’m at peace. And if that’s truly a wrap on my in-ring career……. I’m excited to explore the paths that are opening up for me in its wake.

Whether it’s working for WWE outside of the ring, or it’s hosting, or acting, or voice work, or filmmaking, or so many other things. I feel like there are still so many parts of myself for me to discover.

I feel like I’ve spent the last 10 years with Woods and Kofi on this amazing, life-changing project: trying to perform a version of wrestling that’s in the image of all the things we love. And now I want to find out how far I can stretch that project past wrestling. I want to see if I can actually create some of those things we love.

The New Day will celebrate their anniversary on the December 2nd episode of Raw, and pitches have been made for Big E to be involved. With Kingston and Woods being at odds for several weeks it’s long been rumoured that the episode could mark the end of the group..
