Becky Lynch Equalled Ric Flair’s 17 Year Record On Raw

Becky Lynch matched a seventeen-year-old record set by Ric Flair on Raw as she captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship for the very first time.

On the 27th of February edition of Monday Night Raw, Becky Lynch teamed with Lita to challenge WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions IYO SKY and Dakota Kai for their title. The Damage CTRL team was in for a bigger surprise when Trish Stratus appeared to nullify the antics of Bayley on the outside of the ring, taking out The Role Model.

In the ring, IYO SKY was locked in the Disarm-her by Becky Lynch which allowed Lita to hit a huge moonsault on Kai to pick up the win. With that victory, Lita captured her first championship in WWE since 2006.

Amazingly, on the same night that Lita won her final WWE Women’s Championship in 2006, Ric Flair and ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper rolled back the years and captured the WWE Tag Team Championship from the Spirit Squad.

Wrestling Stats & Info has noted that with Becky Lynch and Lita’s win, The Man becomes the first person since Ric Flair to win tag team gold with a partner who is already inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Roddy Piper was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2005 while Lita was inducted herself in 2014. Ric Flair went on to become a two-time WWE Hall of Famer but only after his last title win in the company. The Nature Boy was honoured with a solo induction in 2008 and was again inducted with The Four Horsemen in 2012.
